Cold Case - Unidentified female - West Virginia

Unidentified Female - White - Age 30-35
Located on May 10, 1950 in Morgan County, West Virginia
Estimated Date of Death: Several days earlier.
Cause of Death: Strangulation
Born Est. 1915-1920


5' 5"; 125-130 lbs.
Red / Auburn hair with recent perm

She had freckles on the back of hands and lower arms; her hands were very small; she had four scars - "W" shaped on center of forehead; "Y" shaped scar on right wrist; 10" hysterectomy scar and 4" appendectomy scar.

She had natural teeth; availability of dental records unknown.

No clothing found; 4 1/2 Narrow shoe size

The victim was located on old US 522, near Hancock Bridge, in Morgan County, West Virginia. She was found 42 feet down an embankment off old Route 522. Approximately 3/10 of a mile from the Maryland/West Virginia state line in Morgan County, West Virginia.

It was speculated that the woman may have gotten off a bus in Maryland and been killed. Leads took investigators to Columbus, Ohio, but no identification could be made. Maryland state originally handled the case, but it was turned over to West Virginia State Police.
