Winston-Salem police are investigating after a decomposed body was found off Interstate 40 Monday afternoon.
The body
was found just before 1 p.m. off the eastbound side of the roadway in a
wooded area near Old Lexington Road. That's just past the interchange
with U.S. 52.
The body was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where an autopsy will be performed at a later date, police said.
Investigators are still trying to determine the age, race and sex of the body, as well as the cause of death.
The remains were discovered by two men who were working on a broken down vehicle, police said in a news release.
Crews
closed the shoulder during the investigation, though traffic continued
to move at a normal pace, according to a WXII photographer at the scene.
