Unidentified Injured Woman found - Anchorage, Alaska

A woman found Monday morning in a Midtown ditch appears to be the victim of a violent attack and is being treated for life-threatening injuries at a local hospital, police say.

Police have closed Fairbanks Street, north of International Airport Road, as they collect evidence. The investigation began at 5:47 a.m. when someone called 911 to report a suspicious, dark-blue Chevy Tahoe stopped on Fairbanks Street, said police spokeswoman Anita Shell. The passer-by thought it was strange to see the SUV, a window partially rolled down, parked in the middle of the road.
Police arrived to find vehicle's interior "covered" with blood, Shell said. Officers discovered the woman unconscious in a nearby ditch.
"Her age range is about 30 years old," Shell said.
The woman, who police say is in critical condition, had no identification, Shell said. "We're still trying to determine who she is."
Blood found throughout the vehicle indicates the woman was likely attacked inside the SUV, Shell said. Police are not talking about how the woman was injured or if a weapon was used. Police declined to say whether they believe the Tahoe belonged to the victim.
Citing the ongoing investigation, detectives won't say if the SUV was idling when it was found in the road.
Detectives had not identified a suspect as of about 9:30 a.m., Shell said
