JEFFERSON COUNTY, Alabama -- A woman was found dead today on the side
of the road on Pope Lane in North Smithfield, according to the Jefferson
County Sheriff's Office.
Chief Deputy Randy Christian said a man
that lives in the neighborhood found the woman's body while he was
walking in the neighborhood. She appeared to have suffered a head wound,
Christian said.
The man went straight home and called the sheriff's office.
The body was found shortly after 4 p.m. and the case is being investigated as a homicide.
The woman has not been identified and investigators are trying to determine how she ended up on Pope Lane.
