8/31/2012: Kidnapped Teen Held for $150,000.00 Ransom: Amber Alert
Issued: Henderson, Las Vegas: A Henderson teenager was abducted from her
home Friday morning and was being held for ransom, police said.
Family members and Henderson police said the kidnapping happened about
7:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Esquina Drive, near Warm Springs Road and
Valle Verde Drive.
Two men knocked on the front door of a home.
When 17-year-old Melissa Duran answered the door, the men snatched her.
The men later called and asked the girl's mother for money. A friend of
the family told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the demand was for
$150,000.
The kidnappers left
the scene in a late-model, two-door red sedan, witnesses said. The front
passenger fender is blue, police said.
Duran's father declined comment when reached by telephone early Friday.
"This is a really bad situation right now," Alex Duran said, his voice shaking.
The teen worked part-time at Hot Dog on a Stick at the Galleria at
Sunset mall. Her supervisor, Shanna Elhard, said Melissa Duran texted
her Thursday night to let her know she was considering another job
selling Halloween costumes.
"I love that girl more than anything," said Elhard Friday.
Police did not release a possible motive. Detectives continue to search
for Duran, a Green Valley High School senior, and the suspects. An
Amber Alert has been issued.
Anyone who sees Duran or the suspects' car should call 911 immediately, police said.
Anyone with information for detectives should call the Henderson police department 702-267-4913.
